Email Support
This page was created to help my clients to manage their email system through SmarterMail
and setup Outlook. At any point the help button in SmarterMail will be more thorough
than this page but most of your issues can be solved with this tutorial. This link
is a more complete guide than mine:
Outlook Step By Step instructions
Logging Into WebMail
To access your WebMail simply go to
http://mail.yourdomain. So if your domain
was
enkode.com you would type
http://mail.enkode.com in your browser.
Notice the
www is replaced with
mail. You should see the following
screen:
Use your e-mail address and password given to you to log in. If you have not received
these credentials talk with your Administrator to have you added. Admin can also
change lost passwords.
Adding / Editing Email Addresses
Use your e-mail address and password given to you to log in. If you have not received
these credentials talk with your Administrator to have you added. Admin can also
change lost passwords.
Domain Settings button and it will drop down and you
should select
Email Users. Then click the
Add User button. Fill in
the Username, password and confirm password. At this time it is good to set the
Time Zone also. Click the
Save button when finished.
To edit the users, use the steps above and instead of clicking the
Add User
button, you will click a user row and you will be taken to a screen to modify the
user's settings.
Mail Forwarding
To forward an email click the
Forwarding tab when editing or adding a user.
Enter the forwarding address and check the
Delete message on forward to save
server space.
Auto Responder
To create an autoresponder, click the
Settings tab on the top menu and select
My Auto-Responder from the drop down. Check the
Enable auto responder
check box and switch tabs to the
Auto-Responder Message tab. Enter your message
and subject line. Click
Save when finished. *Note you cannot setup an Auto-Responder
on an account that has been forwarded.
Mail Box Size
Mail box size is a critical issue. The hosting plan offers a few hundred MB per
domain so I try to evenly distribute the storage across users and priority. I (the
webmaster) unfortunately only have access to mail box sizes so if you are getting
denial service because your mailbox is full I will increase it for you. I will receive
an email if this siuation occurs. If you use outlook you will be downloading the
email from the server which reduces the space. Space has become an issue only when
accounts are not maintained properly.
Outlook Setup
In the Outlook Menu bar select
Tools->
Options->[Tab]
Mail Setup->
Email
Accounts->
New and use the following settings.
yourdomain is replaced with your domain name, in the example below the domain
is
enkode.com
- Your Name: [Your Full Name]
- Your Email: [Your First Name]@yourdomain
- Account Type: Pop3
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain
- Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yourdomain
- User Name: [Your First Name]
- Password: [Your First Name] or a password that you have selected.
Click on the
More Settings... button and check the
My outgoing server (SMTP)
requires authentication box. Select
Use same settings as my incoming mail server
DO NOT check Log on using Secure Password
Authentication Click
OK.
Finally if you click
Test Account Settings.. they all should show "completed".
Some Internet Service Providers, {Cox} block the standard SMTP Port so if you receive
and error messaage on
Send Test Email then click on the
More Settings...
button. Click on the
Advanced tab and change the
Outgoing server SMTP:
to 366 instead of 25 as shown below:
Try
Test Account Settings.. again and it should work. If it doesn't, check
your password and username by logging into webmail to test it out.
